General Information
Sessions-Symposia-Social Events
The 2014 Annual Meeting for the Society for Integrative and Comparative Biology (SICB) is an educational and research forum for investigations of biology on a broad comparative scale. The meeting will include many symposia and special programs in addition to hundreds of contributed papers in divisional and topical sessions. Oral Presenters:
Please remember to upload your talk at the Ready Room (619) at least ½ day (four hours) before your presentation.
Poster Presenters:
Please put up your poster on Saturday from 7:30-8 AM and Sunday-Monday from 7-8 AM, and remove your poster before the exhibit room closes for the day (5:30-6 PM). Poster sessions, with authors available for questions and answers, will take place each day from 3:30-5:30 PM. If your poster number is even, you are responsible to be by your poster from 3:30-4:30 PM; if your poster number is odd, you must be present from 4:30-5:30 PM.
Student First Timer/Post Docs Welcome and Meeting Orientation
Friday 3 January 2013, 5:30 pm, Governor’s Ballroom. "Instructions for Student Helpers and How to get the most out of your SICB meeting." This session is mandatory for students receiving Charlotte Magnum funding and will include training instructions for students supporting the meeting. In addition, we will cover:
How to find relevant talks/posters during the meetings
How to find everyone at the meetings
How to approach a "big whig"
How to enter or leave a room/move between rooms
How to plan your meeting
How to get involved in SICB or attend business meetings and the importance of attending the meetings (exposure, recognition)
This will be followed by a lightning round of first timers' questions.
Opening Plenary Session
Friday 3 January, 7:30 PM, Governor’s Ballroom. Opening Plenary: "Story-telling skills: now mandatory for a career in science," will be given by Randy Olson, scientist turned film-maker.
Welcome to Austin Reception
The Society for Integrative and Comparative Biology welcomes you to Austin with a reception on Friday, January 3 at 8:30 PM in the Governor’s Foyer. The Welcome Reception will follow the Plenary lecture. Light snacks and a cash bar will be provided.
Coffee Breaks
Coffee break service is available each morning from 9:30-10:30 AM, and each afternoon from 3:30-4:30 PM. Coffee service will be located in the Grand Ballroom with the posters except on the last day, when the service will be outside of the meeting rooms.
SRC Breakfast
The SRC Breakfast will take place Monday 6 January at 6:30 am at the Hilton Austin restaurant. SICB will be reserving a table at the restaurant and you will pay for your breakfast at the restaurant.
SICB Business Meeting
The SICB Business Meeting will take place Monday January 6, at 5:45 pm in Salon C.
American Microscopical Society
The annual AMS luncheon will be held on Monday, January 6, 12:00-1:30 in room 602; you may purchase a ticket for lunch at the registration box.
SICB Society-Wide Social in Honor of Students and Postdocs
Join your fellow SICB members for a Society-Wide Social and end-of-meeting party on Monday 7 January, from 5:00-7:00 pm in the Grand Ballroom. Wine and cheese will be served and a cash bar will be available.
Annual Meeting Program and Abstracts
All registered attendees of the 2014 Annual Meeting will receive a copy of the Annual Meeting Program at the SICB Registration/Information Desk. The full program will be available prior to the Annual Meeting on the Web site at www.sicb.org and attendees can plan their activities from the web, as well as using a meeting app that can be downloaded from the SICB website. The abstracts will be online and will also be published as citable documents online in association with an issue of Integrative and Comparative Biology. For those who wish to have a hard copy version of the abstracts, it may be ordered prior to the meeting. See the registration form for this option.

available during these times to assist you with membership
enrollment, on-site registration, conference materials, employment

Finding Committee and Business Meetings, Socials and Workshops
Times and locations for these are listed in the Schedule of events on the first page of each day’s listing, as well as on the “Meeting Schedule at a Glance” posted to the meeting webpage.
Employment Opportunities
The Employment Opportunity bulletin board will be located in the SICB Registration/Information area. The Employment Opportunity board will provide a place for attendees to post "Positions Wanted," and learn about "Positions Available." Interested attendees may schedule interviews in the room set aside for that purpose. See a registration desk attendant for assistance.
Broadening Participation Travel Awards
Go to the SICB web site under meetings for details.
Message Board
A message board will be located in the SICB Registration/Information area. Attendees may also leave messages and announcements for other attendees on the message board.
Child Care
Preferred
Sitters will be the childcare service in Austin, Texas. They have
been providing child daycare services for years for corporate and
government events, and were the provider in Charleston. Be assured
that your child will be cared for in a fun, active and caring
environment while you are in your sessions. We have lots of
activities planned for your children, like crafts, Lego building
competitions, story-time, Pictionary, and LOTS more!
Childcare at the Austin Meeting will be heavily subsidized by SICB, leaving the participants with a $7.00 per hour, per child cost. To register please email preferredsitters@msn.com with the following information: Full name, telephone number, email address, children's name, age and any special instructions/needs. Preferred Sitters will respond within 48 hours with confirmation and will assign a "ticket number".

Special Undergraduate Poster Display
Undergraduate researchers are encouraged to highlight their research by putting up their posters near the registration desk (foyer near Grand Ballroom) on the day of arrival. Please remove your poster after the opening plenary session. All attendees are encouraged to stop by and view these posters!
Business Center
UPS has a business center in the Austin Hilton which you can use for last-minute printing, etc.

prepared by the presenters, together with the content of all
presentations and poster sessions presented at the annual meeting,
are the property of the presenters. Video and audio recording of
presentations and poster sessions without the prior written consent
of the presenters is prohibited. Unless explicit permission is
obtained from the presenters, recordings of presentations and posters
may not be modified.
Presentations must not be transferred or
transmitted to any other person or posted online except in limited
excerpts suitable for discussion or dissemination as news.
Errors and Changes in Program
SICB does not assume responsibility for any errors in the abstracts or program. We regret any possible omissions or mistakes. Cancellations that occur after the printing of the program are listed in “Final Changes” documents available on the meeting website and at the SICB registration desk.
